Beauty and skincare industry is steadily on the rise. Alongside tried and tested methods and approaches, there are continually new and innovative techniques appearing on the horizon.

At times, it can get overwhelming.

New trends and techniques emerging left and right.

Unless you pay close attention to what is new and talked-about, it is easy to miss out, and suddenly find yourself asking – what’s that and why haven’t I tried it yet?

Let’s have a look at some of the current skincare trends that are worth incorporating in your every day or weekly skincare regime.

Eyebrow Threading

Neither an innovative nor a long-forgotten method, eyebrow threading has actually been around for a very long time, but suddenly everyone seems to have caught on.

We all know you can get your eyebrows plucked, waxed, microbladed, but what exactly is eyebrow threading and why is everyone talking about it?

Eyebrow threading originates in Asia, and the technique differs considerably from eyebrow plucking and waxing. The eyebrow hairs – no matter how long or short they are – get removed by a twisting motion between two cotton threads (visually similar to dental floss).

But why do people love it so much?

Turns out, eyebrow threading is more effective at removing eyebrow hairs than other techniques since the threads are able to remove even the shortest and thinnest hairs that normally would be rather difficult to get with tweezers or wax.

The hairs are removed with the follicle which slows down re-growth.

Furthermore, eyebrow threading is excellent for shaping and defining your eyebrows.

Facial Gadgets

While your fingers still are the ultimate tool, it’s difficult to compete with the effectiveness of gadgets created purposely for the use in skincare.

Some of you might have seen these before or at least heard of them. To others, these can be a completely new thing. Facial cleansing brushes, microabrasion tools, facial toning devices, face rollers, light treatments, thermal devices, and many more.

Are they worth the hype?

What’s the difference between all the various tools and gadgets?

More importantly, are they worth the money?

Well, essentially, yes, they are! Why?

Think of them as of an investment.

Unless you regularly get facials in a professional setting, there is only so much you can do at home that will have the same effect as a treatment in a beautician’s salon.

But getting regular facials and spa treatments can quickly add up and get expensive.

At the end of the day, no matter how young or old we are, what our skin type is, all of us want to look younger, healthier, and glowing.

Most of the facial treatment devices are intended to be used for several years, and because of that, they are sort of an investment. Cheaper than getting a facial, but you get so many more uses out of it, and results that you can enjoy every day.

Just like other parts of your body, your facial skin needs regular attention and toning to look its best. Creams, serums, and face masks are all good, but there really isn’t anything quite like facial gadgets. They are effective and offer excellent and lasting results for longer if used regularly.

In fact, using facial treatment devices can enhance the effect you then get from any skincare products you use in your daily regime.

Let’s have a look at some of the skincare devices worth the hype.

Facial cleansing brushes: These are great for everyday use. A facial cleansing brush is the most effective way, how to thoroughly cleanse your skin in a gentle way.

The fast-spinning brush heads remove traces of makeup, dirt, and particles from the environment that have settled in your pores. The result is thoroughly-cleansed and lightly-exfoliated skin.

Not only is the skin cleansed, but also prepared for any further skincare steps. You wouldn’t want to apply any other products on skin that isn’t perfectly clean, as that could clog up your pores and cause a breakout.  On top of that, facial cleansing brushes also perform a skin-firming function.

Microcurrent toning devices: Microcurrent toning devices work by sending small electrical impulses through the skin that then help and improve the overall skin appearance and facial contour.

For a long time, microcurrent procedures were only available at aesthetician practices.

But it wasn’t long until someone created a device which could be used at home and achieve the same effect.

But what exactly are microcurrents and how do they work? Is it safe?

  • Microcurrent devices use low electrical current which affects the skin on a cellular level.
  • It increases the production of collagen and elastin within the skin.
  • Microcurrent treatments improve facial muscle tone and it can have a lifting effect.
  • Microcurrent treatments are known to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Microcurrent devices need to be used together with a water-based conductor like a hydrating gel or natural aloe vera, for example.

Regular use is recommended for visible results.

Smart facial mask treatment devices: Nothing feels better than applying a face mask, but unfortunately, the effects aren’t always very long-lasting.

Luckily, there’s a device for that! A thermo-regulating device with sonic impulses working together with a face mask amplifies the effects to the skin.

It is well known that our skin reacts differently to varying temperatures.

As with anything, warmth makes things expand, and cold temperatures make things compress. The same happens to human skin.

Heat is used in various treatments to help open up the pores. This way the skin can not only be cleansed properly and thoroughly, but it also helps with product absorption. In this case, a face mask or a serum.

After the product is applied, this thermal device slowly cools down, and this helps to seal the product into the skin.

Sheet Masks

Sheet masks have been among the most popular skincare trends in recent years and if you haven’t tried them yet – the time is now.

Exactly as the name implies, a sheet mask is a thin sheet of fabric, usually cotton, that has been soaked in a skincare solution like a gel, serum, or an essence. You then apply it to your face and let it do its magic for approximately 20 minutes.

The key is not letting it get dry on your skin, in which case all the benefits that the mask is supposed to give to your skin, it then takes back. So be sure to remove it while it is still damp.

The sheet mask trend originates in Korea. Korean skincare altogether has been renowned for its effective results, and many techniques have travelled west ever since.

There is no doubt about it, you have probably seen these popping up on social media left and right. And despite them looking like something straight out of a horror movie, they couldn’t be more soothing.

Face Oils

Many skincare products like moisturizers and creams contain one or several plant oils, so the question is – why not use just the oils instead in their pure form?

In fact, that is exactly what many people are doing.

There is a common misconception that putting oil on your face is something you don’t want to be doing since nobody likes to have oily skin. As a matter of fact, many of us try to battle it every day.

However, it’s worth noting that applying a natural oil to your face is actually extremely nutritious for the skin.

And not just that – some oils even go as far as having anti-inflammatory effects.

Olive, coconut, jojoba, avocado, and argan oils are only some of the many that have been used in skincare for decades. And nowadays, many people prefer to use these oils in their pure form.

Some absorb into the skin easier than others. Oils that do, can be used both in the morning, when you want to apply makeup, as well as in the evening. Oils that don’t absorb so well should be used either only in the evening or in the morning but without using makeup on top.

When using oils for hydration, it is also important to regularly exfoliate your skin. Even though oils have many benefits, at the end of the day, they are slightly heavy and with continuous use can clog up pores unless you exfoliate.

Going Natural & Cruelty-Free

People are becoming more aware of what they use in their daily lives. Especially, if it is something you put on your skin.

While all skincare and makeup need to be tested to prove its safety, some people are concerned that certain ingredients might not be as good as others.

Luckily, the answer to that is going natural.

Whether those are products containing ecologically-grown ingredients or ingredients of 100% natural origin, or maybe leaving out some of the not so great ingredients – choosing natural is big right now.

And not just that. Animal welfare is also a concern, and more people are choosing products that have not been tested on animals, also known as cruelty-free.

The reason this can happen is thanks to innovation and new technologies. We live in a time when there are alternatives to old ways.

Twenty years ago, ten years ago, even five, there was less information about ingredients and their long-term effect on people’s skin and overall health. As time goes on, more research has been done, and new findings have allowed for a clearer picture to be painted when it comes to how certain ingredients interact with human health.

Thanks to that, companies and specialists working on product development have been forced to look into alternatives. And as it turns out – there are plenty.

You might have noticed products without parabens and sulfates, but it goes deeper than that.

  • Natural and aluminium-free deodorants; crystal deodorants
  • Natural sunscreen with zinc oxide
  • Exfoliators without microbeads
  • Face wash and exfoliating sponges from konjac fibre
  • Natural and charcoal toothpaste

These are only some of the skincare products of natural origin that have been trending in recent years.

And turns out, the majority are as effective as their synthetic counterparts, if not better.

People love natural skincare not only because it is, well, natural and better for you, it is also kinder for the planet.

And speaking of the planet, let’s not forget our living fellows, the animals.

While many companies still do product testing on animals, there are more than plenty that don’t. Such companies are known as cruelty-free and the range of the products they offer expands each year.

If a company sells its products in China, by law it is required to do product testing on animals.

However, more companies are going cruelty-free, and people are following suit by choosing products that are ethical, not tested on animals, and vegan. Now it is easier than ever to see, whether a company is cruelty-free or not, and if one of your favorite companies isn’t, rest assure – there are many that are and you could easily find similar products in their range.

In Conclusion

Beauty and skincare trends change all the time. New ones appear within a blink of an eye, but if something is good – it is here to stay.

As with anything relating to skin care, beauty, makeup, and health – it is subjective. What works for one person might not necessarily work for someone else.

If you want to try something new and incorporate it into your skincare regime, try it first before committing and see, whether it works for you and your skin type.

Nobody knows your skin, your needs, and all the specifics relating to that better than you. So listen to your body and what your skin is telling you, and take steps accordingly.

Ultimately, these are tried and tested skincare trends that so many of us swear by, and if you haven’t tried them yet – what are you waiting for?
